Mike Brubaker serves as Chairman to Hunger-Free Lancaster County, a coalition of more than 20 nonprofit, for profit, religious, government and grassroots organizations committed to the mission of eradicating hunger in Lancaster County. By creating a nutritious, accessible and sustainable food system, Hunger-Free Lancaster County is striving toward an audacious and important goal. By 2018, the organization hopes to ensure sustainable access to three healthy meals a day for every resident of Lancaster County. In doing so, Lancaster hopes to become the first county in the United States to end hunger and offer a model for the rest of the world.
More than 59,000 Lancastrians are currently food insecure. Hunger-Free Lancaster County aims to bring that number down to zero through a proactive three-pronged approach. By leveraging initiatives to provide more charitable service, universal meal access at schools, and greater enrollment in SNAP, great strides can be made in this important battle. Mike Brubaker brings his extensive experience as former state Senator to lead this national test case in eradicating the hunger epidemic on the county-wide level.
